Wine Dinner Blog

To start the journey to our wine dinner, my roommate's parents came to visit (I like to think of them as my parents too, so I hope that counts for wine dinner with the parents!). Before we got to the winery for dinner, we went hiking on the Appalachian Trail with their dog!

Hiking was incredibly fun, but also cold and by the end we were all very hungry. We decided to go to the Beliveau Farm Winery to warm up, get some good grub and try great wines! We also met our other friend, Kyle and his parents there too.

Here are some of the wines and foods we tried:

This is a white wine called the Crown Jewel from 2018. Trinity and I went up to ask if they sell it at the Wine Cellar because we loved it so much. They do!
This wine was light, crisp, and had hints of honey. It was semi-sweet, and a little tart like a granny smith apple. It did not seem super strong on tannins.
Trinity and I picked this wine out with her parents, and it was the perfect choice! It paired really well with the balsamic pizza (first food picture). With arugula on the pizza, but no cheese, the pizza tasted light and fresh. The light wine helped to highlight how refreshing the pizza also was. Both were a nice pair to replenish after hiking all day.
This is a blend of Chardonel and Vidal Blanc called Afternoon Delight from 2019. Our friend Sam picked it out, and we all tried it. It was less sweet (more dry) and tasted a little more dense than the Crown Jewel. It had an oaky flavor that I noticed before examining the description, but it also had a peach flavor that I could not put my finger on until after looking at the description.
This wine paired well with cheese and jam from the charcuterie board. The dry wine helped to balance out the sweet jams, complimenting each other nicely.

This is a Chambourcin red wine called the Soul Singer from 2017. Our friend Kyle and his parents picked out this wine, so we could all try it. It had dark fruit flavors, like blackberries and cherries, and a bit of a oaky or burnt taste to it. It was full in body and took over the pallet more than the white wines, with greater tannic values.
This red wine paired nicely with the pepperoni pizza and the meat on the charcuterie board as the full-bodied wine helped to bring out the rich, fatty flavors of the pizza and meat.
